Susan Elaine Miller Powell, 68, died Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born December 27, 1954, in Waukegan, Illinois to Richard Eugene Miller and Mae Ella Dickerson Miller. During her younger years, she excelled at sports including basketball and especially track, where she earned several blue ribbons and first place at state in the 50-yard dash. She and her future husband, Gary Powell, were Mr. and Mrs. Mooreville and she was voted homecoming queen her senior year. On July 19, 1975, she married her high school sweetheart, Gary. During her very blessed life, she never met a stranger and was well-known for her vibrant personality. While her health allowed, she worked as a teller and later at exceptions at BancorpSouth operations. For several years following she enjoyed her time at VF Factory outlets. She was a member of Gloster Street Church of Christ.
Susan is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gary Powell; her mother, Mae Miller Stanley; two children, Jennifer Suzanne Begrin, and Johnathan Gary Powell; four grandchildren, Adam Begrin, Matthew Begrin, Sara Meadow Begrin, and Noah Powell; two great-grandchildren, Zaela Begrin, and Matteo Begrin; and one niece, Stacy Vickers (Brent).
She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Miller; brother, Richard “Ricky” Miller; and sister, Kathy Jean Brown.
Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring her life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Minister Chad Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Gilvo Cemetery.
