ATHENS-With a huge number of millennials approaching home-buying age–and the housing market reaching its best buying conditions in years, according to CNN–consumer advocacy site NerdWallet has identified the best Alabama cities for purchasing your first house. In a new report, we crunched the numbers for 114 communities and found that Athens is the 20th best city for first-time homebuyers in Alabama.

In a new report, we crunched the numbers for 114 communities and found that Athens is the 20th best city for first-time homebuyers in Alabama.Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, we looked at three key factors:
- Value appreciation
- Housing cost
- Prosperity and safety
