Stephen Thomas Bragg, 65, passed away Monday, April 29 following a brief illness. Steve was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend. A native Huntsvillian, Steve was born September 20, 1958, in Huntsville Hospital. He attended Blossomwood and Huntsville Junior and Senior High schools before his family moved to Mobile, Alabama where he attended Greystone and Independent Methodist schools. He attended UNA and received his BA degree in English from UAH.

Steve worked for years at JCPenney in both The Mall and Madison Square Mall locations. While working there, he met his wife of 27 years, Carol Ann, whom he charmed with his sweetness and humor. He then transitioned to the City of Huntsville where he worked in Water Pollution Control, where he retired when kidney issues forced him to take medical disability. In December 2020, Steve received a new kidney that made him an advocate for organ donation.

Every place Steve went allowed him to make lifelong friendships. His friends and family loved his humor and generous spirit. He spent his retirement years meeting old friends for breakfast and lunch. His favorite hobby was subjecting friends and family to his endless jokes and twisted sense of humor, and his yearly Christmas card was looked forward to by everyone. An avid music collector, Steve purchased hundreds of albums and CDs over the years. His musical tastes ran the gamut, but he especially loved 70’s and 80’s pop and rock.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Nell Bragg, older brother, Jimmy, older sister, Diane, and two mini-dachshunds, Maggie and Sally Jane. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his younger brother, Ben (Wendy); sisters-in-law, Linda Serio, Susan Andersen, and Janet Andersen; brother in-law, Jeff Andersen; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his other mini-dachshund, Xena.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 4th at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with a celebration of life immediately following in the chapel. Friends and family are asked to come with their favorite memories and stories of Steve to share. Following cremation, Steve’s ashes will be interred in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Steve’s name to the Alabama Kidney Foundation (www.alkidney.org).
