Stella Lee Baker Lyell – Obituary

Stella Lee Baker Lyell, age 85, of Nitrate City, left this life, Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, 1:30 until 3:30 at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Ricky Lyell, her son, officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
Stella was born in Colbert County on July 29, 1927, to Walter James Baker and Eunice Peden Baker. She touched the lives of many people with her sweet spirit and contagious laughter. She was an amazing person who believed in God, family and love. She was a Christian who loved and served the Lord faithfully and was a member of River Road Church of Christ for many years.
She was married to her beloved husband James W. Lyell of 67 years and they had four children; Peggy Word (Barry), Susan Blasingame (Ben), Ricky Lyell (Elaine), Nathan Lyell (Deb). Stella loved her family so much and took pride in raising her children and always being there for them. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, quilting and sewing, but she was always known for her green thumb.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter James Baker and Eunice Peden Baker, her two brothers, James Jackson Baker and Frank Baker.
Other than her children, she is survived by two sisters, Mary Ellen Romans and Christine Berry; two brothers, Samuel Baker and Lloyd Baker; 14 grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Stella’s family expresses special thanks to all the family, friends and caregivers for taking such great care of her.
Pallbearers are Brent Word, Jeremy Lyell, Joshua Robertson, Zach Lyell, Brad King, Tad Drake, Jimmy Gable, Josh Brooks, Eric Mullins and Johnny Cobb.
