Stanley Dewayne Smith, Sr. Profile Photo  Stanley Dewayne Smith, Sr., a beloved husband, father, pawpaw, and friend, passed away on August 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in Columbia, Tennessee. Born to the late Athol Hunter Smith, Sr. and Virginia Calvert Smith in his hometown of Columbia, Stanley’s life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and a passion for family and sports.

A pillar of his community, Stanley was a devoted member of Sandy Hook Church of Christ, where he found solace, community, and shared values with fellow Christians. For over the years, he applied his strong work ethic as a dedicated maintenance worker at General Mills.

Stanley’s love for sports was a cornerstone of his identity, and his unwavering support for his favorite teams brought joy to countless moments. He cheered with unmatched enthusiasm for the Tennessee Titans, UT Vols, Nashville Predators, and the Atlanta Braves. His passion for sports extended beyond professional arenas, as he was a proud attendee of every ballgame his grandchildren played and coached. With popcorn and hotdog in hand, he stood in the stands, giving his grandkids the encouragement and love to do their best.

Beyond the realm of sports, Stanley’s greatest treasures were his family. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, Wanda Faye Glass Smith, creating countless memories and building a life of love and companionship. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion as a father to his children, Stanley Dewayne Smith, Jr. and Amy Elizabeth (Danny) Smith. Additionally, his stepchildren Brandy (Ron) Rochelle, Tina (Erik) Krusell, and Homer (Becky) Glass benefited from his loving presence in their lives.

Stanley’s role as a pawpaw brought him immense joy, and he proudly doted on his grandchildren: Kara Ann Steadman, Lillian Grace Reid, Jackson Dewayne Smith, and Anthony Dwayne Smith. His love extended to his step-grandchildren, including Blake (Suzanne) Rochelle, Shawn (Samantha) Blalock, Kara Blalock, Kaitlyn Blalock, Aaron Rochelle, Tyler Glass, and Matthew Glass. His step-great-grandchildren, Anderson Ray Rochelle and Ari Blalock, also held a special place in his heart.

In addition to his cherished wife and children, Stanley is survived by his brother Bobby (Mary) Smith, and brother-in-law Jerry Davis. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Debra Jean Parham Smith, and his siblings Martha Jo Davis, Patsy (George) Shaffer, Ruby (Bobby) Frazier, and Hunter Smith, Jr.

Stanley Dewayne Smith, Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his faith, his dedicated work ethic, his passionate sportsmanship, and above all, his deep love for his family. He will be deeply missed.

Pallbearers are Stan Smith, Danny Reid, Tyler Glass, Stone Storey, Wayne Dugger, John Kelley. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronnie Frazier, Robbie Frazier, Randy Frazier, Ricky Frazier, Blake Rochelle, Aaron Rochelle, and Sharon Blalock.

The care of Mr. Stanley Dewayne Smith, Sr., and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Williams Funeral Home.
