Smith McMillan, age 93 of Decherd, passed away on March 7, 2024, at his residence. He was born on June 7, 1930, in Mullins, South Carolina to the late John Alexander McMillan and Margaret E. Smith. Smith enlisted in the United States Army. Following his service, he graduated from the University of Clemson with a BA in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he went to work in Atlanta, Georgia where he met and married the love of his life on March 4, 1955. In the late 50’s they moved to Tennessee, where he went to work for AERO now known as AEDC. He retired after thirty plus years of service. While at home, he enjoyed working on the farm and being with his family. He loved supporting them in whatever activity or sport they were participating in. Smith served as a deacon at Decherd First Baptist and was a former Sunday School teacher. He will be remembered for his quiet, loving, and caring personality and his willingness to watch “Young and the Restless” with his wife, where she in return would watch sports with him. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret McMillan; sons, David (Donna) McMillan, and Paul McMillan; and granddaughter, Jennifer McMillan Deboard. Smith is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Mary Ann McMillan; daughter, Carolyn (Ray) Wenger; son, Mark (Tanya) McMillan; daughter-in-law, Denise McMillan; grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) McMillan, Brice McMillan, Shannon Johnson, Ashley (Nick) Morris, Savannah Wenger (fiancé Luke Hindman), Blake McMillan, John (Abby) Pickett, Tiffani Walthrop, and Xander Walthrop; and several great and great-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on March 17, 2024, at 12:30pm at Decherd First Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall.
