silasSilas W. Nelson, 95, Russellville, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Bobby McCulloch, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, a member of First Baptist Church, College Avenue, Russellville, where he was a deacon 72 years, and sang in the church choir and male chorus. He was a World War II veteran in the United States Marine Corps. He was a farmer and employed at the Tennessee Valley Authority and retired from Reynolds Metal Company. He was also a member and past Master of Ensley Rising Star Lodge No. 47 F and AM and American Legion Post No. 305.

He leaves to cherish his memories sons, Charles (Madgie) Nelson, Florence, and William Calvin (Wilma) Nelson, Chickamauga, Ga.; daughter, Hazel (Bobby) McCulloch, Russellville; grandchildren, Mario (Laretta) McCulloch, Myron (Kimberly) McCulloch, Charese (Duane), Crawford, Carlos (Deirdre) Nelson, Canetta Nelson, Caritra (Larry) Manghane, and Corey (Colandra) Nelson;

great-grandchildren, Maurice McCulloch, Montre (Erika) McCulloch, Tiffany (Antotne) Reynolds, Micah McCulloch, Aireon McCulloch, and Kennedi Nelson; three sisters- in-law, Mrs. Pautine Nelson, Mrs. Carolyn Crum, and Mrs. Jesse Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Mrs. Carrie Thompson Nelson; his parents, the Rev. James H. (Polly Vinson) Nelson; son, Grady Harold Nelson; and siblings, Mae Ellen Nelson, Annie Pearl Nelson, Armentia Marshall, Arthur James Nelson, and Charlie Houston Nelson.
