ATHENS-On Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 2:48 pm, Athens Police Department Dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 callers reporting a shooting at Fifth Avenue Apartments. Officers arrived moments later and located a deceased male in the grass. A shooting investigation was launched.
At approximately the same time. a man arrived at Athens Hospital in a private vehicle. He had been shot in the leg. This also happened at the same grassy area at Fifth Avenue Apartments. He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Approximately twenty minutes into the investigation, a male was detained for questioning. The area remains an active crime scene; please avoid.
