U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Talent Pipeline Management Initiative | U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation  THE SHOALS– The Shoals Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce a new initiative out of its Education and Workforce Readiness division, called “Talent Pipeline Management (TPM).” Employer Collaboratives are being established for Manufacturing, Construction, Healthcare and Customer Service (Retail / Hospitality / Tourism) to determine the most universal “pain points” in the hiring, training, and retention process within individual industries.

The new TPM initiative is brought to The Shoals by Stephanie Newland, the Chamber’s VP for Education and Workforce Readiness, through her participation in the TPM Academy. The TPM Academy is a training session for state and local chambers, business associations, and economic development agency leaders, as well as employers, to learn to drive partnerships with their education and training providers based on industry

need.

Through the collaborative effort, employers will develop universally beneficial training standards and expected outcomes, to then be communicated to Training Providers who will assist with developing potential solutions and accountability measures.  This process allows the individual employers to drive the quality of their workforce.

The TPM process is a demand-driven, employer-led approach to closing the skills gap. Utilizing supply chain management principles, employers play an expanded leadership role as “end-usecustomers” of education and workforce partnerships. The framework of TPM consists of six strategies that are designed to build off each other and support employers in developing a data and performance-driven approach to improving education and workforce partnerships. The TPM is further enhanced by a powerful, analytical web-tool supporting the process.

The return on investment can be great with better-prepared new hires, considering the time and money spent recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and then sometimes losing new employees, as well as in up-skilling the existing workforce. When more precise needs and expectations are exchanged between employers and training providers prior to training, all parties gain a greater benefit.

Currently, the Shoals Chamber of Commerce is seeking participation in the Employers Collaboratives for this initiative. If your organization is interested in participating, please contact Stephanie Newland at snewland@shoalschamber.com.
