Shirley Jean Davis Shirley Jean Davis was a Christian, a caring aunt, loving sister and friend to many. She left this world on June 20, 2023 after a long battle with cancer at the age of 79. Her battle with cancer showed her courage in facing life challenges with a positive attitude and smile, while showing more concern for others than herself. Despite the pain, Shirley stayed strong until the very end.
Shirley was born on October 22, 1943, to the late Cecil and Esther Davis. She was preceded in death by her brother Cecil Leo (Patti) Davis and brother-in-law John Pelham. She left behind a brother Terry Wayne Davis (Rita); sisters Linda Pelham and Iva Lou Boyd (Kenneth); 12 nieces and nephews and 23 great neces and nephews (whom she called her own).
After graduating from North High School in 1961, Shirley continued her education receiving numerous degrees. She earned an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement, BS in Criminal Justice and Master’s Degree in Public Service.
Shirley’s love for others and desire to serve lead her to a lifelong career in law enforcement. She began working for Metro Police Department and was one of the first female graduates of the academy. Shirley received many awards and commendations for outstanding performance and was chosen as the IAWP Outstanding Woman Officer of the Year. She served for over 34 years before retiring as a Captain.
After retiring, Shirley spent her time with family and friends.
As per Shirley’s request, no memorial service or funeral will be held.
