Shirley Evon Hice Syler, age 88 of Winchester passed away on April 12, 2024. A Franklin County native, she was born on July 11, 1935 in Winchester, Tennessee to Thomas and Leehela Hice. She was a 1955 graduate of Franklin County High School.

Shirley’s devotion to her faith was unwavering. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served in the nursery for many years.

Her dedication extended beyond her immediate family. She willingly embraced the role of caregiver for the senior members of her family, demonstrating her compassionate nature and unwavering commitment to those in need.

In addition to her roles within her family, Shirley excelled at selling Avon, where her warm personality and genuine interest in others endeared her to her customers. Her ability to connect with people on a personal level reflected her genuine kindness and generosity of spirit.

Despite her busy life, Shirley always made time for her grandchildren, showering them with love, laughter, and invaluable life lessons. Whether it was sharing stories, or simply being present, she made each moment with them precious and unforgettable.

The last surviving of fourteen children, she was preceded in death by parents and siblings: Otis “Doc” Hice, Jewel Edward Hice, Virgie M. Hice, Elsie H. Hice, Ola Thomas Hice, Lloyd Junior Hice, Gilbert Hice, Nannie Lee Hice Fulmer, Mildred Hice Williams, Dorothy Hice, Kenneth Hice, Lovine Hice Holland, Shelby Jean Hice.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Edd Syler, son, Kent (Lynell) Syler of Murfreesboro, daughter, Lisa (Nelson) Hatchett of Winchester, and grandchildren Kyle (Diana) Hatchett, Liala Syler, Melissa Hatchett, Emily Syler, and great-granddaughter Elsie Ruth Hatchett.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 5:00 PM, Franklin Memorial Gardens, Winchester, Tennessee with Bro. Darrel Williams officiating.
