Mrs. Sherry N. Manley, aged 69, died Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital surrounded by her family. Sherry was a 1975 graduate of Guntersville High School and a 1978 graduate of Auburn University. In 1978 she began a 36-year career in public education. She taught in several schools in Marshall County, but the highlight of her career was returning home to serve as teacher and Social Studies Department Chair at Guntersville High School, followed by eight years as the Guntersville City Schools Community Education Director.
In addition to her professional career, she was an accomplished cook and gardener. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Guntersville. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and served on multiple committees for many years. She loved and served her Lord and His church throughout her lifetime.
Mrs. Manley is survived by her husband, Richard Manley of Guntersville; her daughter Martha Manley of Vestavia Hills, AL; her sister and brother-in-law Jeanie and Tony Clark of Huntsville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike and Sharon Manley of Huntsville; niece Allison Clark of Huntsville and nephew Matt Manley. She is also survived by her chosen family Kristi Swords, Nicklaus Hester and Sydney Hester; members of her Supper Club (and their children and grandchildren) who have been meeting continuously for over 40 years; and the Beach Girls, Kathy Reaves, Nancy Edwards, Janice Spradlin, Tina Whitmore, Sandra Moody and Lisa Beam.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 19, 2026, at First Baptist Church Guntersville with Dr. Glenn Conner and Dr. Joel Samuels officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her memory to the Building by Faith Fund at First Baptist Church Guntersville, AL (1000 Gunter Avenue, Guntersville, AL, 35976) or the Huntsville Hospital Foundation (699 Gallatin Street SW, Bldg. A, Huntsville, AL, 35801).
Richard and Martha would like to especially thank Dr. John W. Boggess, Dr. Wade Edwards, and Ms. Carolyn Mason of Lakeside Clinic and Dr. Mihir Kanitkar of the Heart Center for their compassionate care and attention.
