Shelia Faye George Satterfield, of Decatur, Alabama, went to her home in heaven on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the age of 77.
Shelia is survived by her husband, James Satterfield; her children, Dwight Satterfield (Jana) and Tylerann Satterfield Betterton (Donny); her grandchildren, Ashley Satterfield Mott (Joey), Ali Satterfield Barefoot (Thomas), Emily Betterton Jones (Tate), and Noah Betterton; her great-grandson, James Brooks Barefoot; her siblings, Susan George Handley (Jackie) and Richard George; her lifelong best friends and caregivers, Mrs. Dru Almon and Mrs. Jackie Cheatham; alongside countless other extended family members and people who loved her.
A lifelong resident of Decatur, Alabama, Shelia was born January 7, 1949, to Howard and Wanda George. Her story was one defined by steadfast love and quiet service. After graduating from Decatur High School in the spring, she married James on July 14, 1967. Together, they built a beautiful, Christ-centered marriage that flourished for nearly 60 years. Though she was a proud and dedicated employee of Decatur City Schools for over three decades, Shelia’s true life’s work was her heart for others. Whether sitting vigil by a hospital bed or sending a thoughtful note when it mattered most, she had a beautiful way of loving people exactly how they needed it.
A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Flint Church of Christ. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the service immediately following. Parkway Funeral Home directing.
