Shelby Jean Taylor Guinn, 83, of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Mrs. Guinn was born in Huntsville to Shelby P. and Eva Ivy Taylor. She married Gerald R. ‘Jerry’ Guinn September 19, 1960. A longtime member of Whitesburg Baptist Church, Shelby Jean was always a deeply spiritual person. She made a resolute commitment, completely sold out to Jesus Christ during a Brush Arbor revival at Martha Fleming’s home on Whitesburg. Her favorite verse was Jeremiah 29:11 ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’ She taught Sunday School and was involved in children’s ministries in the church.
Shelby Jean was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and an active member of Christian Women’s Club. Nouthetic Christian Counseling was her passion. She served as Court Appointed Juvenile Advocate CAJA for many years assisting the court with children caught up in family conflicts. She had a special gift for flower arranging and, for years, prepared the table arrangements for dinners at the church. Her other hobby was RV’ing with family and friends and she was very much into Huntsville History. She was employed for a time at Teledyne Brown Engineering.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Gerald R. Guinn; daughter, Patricia ‘Patti’ Annette Guinn; granddaughters, Dr. Joy Deshazo of Huntsville and Camille Deshazo of Madison; grandson, Jake Deshazo of Telluride, CO; and sister, Susan Bailey of Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Sharon.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24th, at Whitesburg Baptist Church South Campus. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25th, at Maple Hill Cemetery.
