Our beloved father, Shelby Harold Yeatman passed away peacefully at home on January 3, 2025. He was born March 2, 1941 to Rev. and Mrs. J.W. Yeatman (Ruth Fulgham).
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jane Barry Yeatman; and his son, Michael Edward Yeatman of Starkville.
Shelby was born in Mathiston, Mississippi.
He moved to Starkville at a young age where the Yeatman family were active community members for many years. He married his high school sweetheart, Jane Barry, in 1958. As a young adult, Shelby worked as a lighting designer for American Electric Manufacturing, Inc., in Southaven, Mississippi. He is remembered for his research and development of innovative commercial lighting designs. He later joined the television manufacturing industry with Warwick Electronics in Forrest City, Arkansas. Before returning to Starkville in 1980, he served as production plant manager of Bellows International in West Memphis, Arkansas. The remaining years of his career were dedicated to serving the Starkville and surrounding communities at Arnold Industries, Inc., Curtis Mathes, East Mississippi Community College, Golden Triangle Campus, as an electronics instructor, and as business owner, real estate investor and developer.
Shelby was passionate about many things. Among his many loves were spending time with his grandchildren. Shelby was a life-long learner and enjoyed studying many topics of interest including stained glass-making and learning to fly. Much of his free time was spent at the country cabin that he designed and built. Many summers were spent with grandchildren fishing, riding four-wheelers, gardening, and enjoying nature.
He is survived by his daughters Cindy Ruth Yeatman Delcambre of McKinney, Texas and Carrie Lynn Yeatman Hale of Melissa, Texas; his brother Gentry W. Yeatman (Janet) of Lakewood, Washington; grandchildren William Paul Delcambre (Valeria) of Allen, Texas; Benjamin Brooks Delcambre of McKinney, Texas; Sarah Elizabeth Hale of San Luis Obispo, California; Benjamin Kyle Hale (Marina) of Woodbridge, VA; and Emily Katherine Hale of Melissa, Texas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Welch Funeral Home, Starkville, MS. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 13, 2025, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Welch Funeral Home, immediately followed by the funeral service. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery. Rev. Dewayne Davis will conduct the service.
Pallbearers will be Brooks Delcambre, Brian Steen, Bob Hodges, and Jason Ingram.
