Shawn Murphree, 48 of Blountsville passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at UAB Hospital. He was born May 3, 1977 in Cullman the son of James “Buddy” Murphree and Faye Woods Murphree. Shawn was a man anyone could go to in a time of need or just talk and catch up. He loved everyone, and most of all he loved life. He loved the pool, the beach, and anywhere it was warm. Kelby once ask him if he wanted to go to the beach or the mountains, and he said, “ I hate the mountains, I always get Gout”. He especially loved his kids and grandkids, and he was always super happy when they were around. One of Kasten’s best memories is going to the cow sale and spending the morning sitting around the table at Latham’s, doing nothing but enjoying each other’s company. He and his wife Penny shared thirty years of marriage, where so many memories were made. Shawn especially loved a cruise ship, and if you knew him, that was where he was the happiest, somewhere on a beach. He also loved farm life, the chickens, and just being home. When Kenlee was in preschool, he would go check her out every day at nap time, simply because she hated to take a nap, and they would ride around singing “Drunk on You” by Luke Bryan. Although Shawn is gone, he will never be forgotten.
Shawn is survived by his wife: Penny Murphree; sons: Kelby Murphree (Megan) and Kasten Murphree (Chloe) and his daughter Kenlee Murphree (Robert); sister: Angela Ashe (Steve); brother: Shane Hallman (Beth); grandchildren: Jesse Murphree, Jaxson Murphree, and Emee Tovar; father-in-law: Jimmy Smith; sister-in-law: Denise Shedd (Les); special chosen daughters: Raylee Wilson and Kylie Bowling. He is preceded in death by his parents: Buddy & Faye Murphree; grandparents and a special friend: Brian Bozeman; mother-in-law: Arnice Smith.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Gober Funeral Chapel with Brother Paul Kelley and Brother Greg Stone officiating. The burial will be in Roswell Creek Cemetery, Gober Funeral Chapel directing.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Gober Funeral Chapel.
