Elene Wilson Hopson, 97 of Baileyton passed away peacefully Monday, January 5, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. She was born October 30, 1928 in Addsion, Alabama the daughter of Narvel Jackson Wilson and Hettie Mae Phillips Wilson. Hard work was just a part of life for her, she spent her early years farming with her family and would often brag about how she could plow a mule. After marriage she and her husband moved their small family to Detroit, Michigan, where she took a job in a factory making eyelets for fishing rods. Once they had moved back to Alabama, she continued to work to help support their family. From King Pharr Canning Company in Cullman, to the Wrangler Factory in Arab, Blount Manufacturing and eventually retiring from Phillips in Hulaco, Elene did not shy away from working with her hands. Outside of work she enjoyed painting, drawing and writing and even once had a poem published in the local newspaper. She was also a talented singer who sang bass with the Harper Sisters and aspired to be a famous country-western singer. She was always up for a few laughs and on a good day you might just get her to crow like a rooster, one of her many talents. Elene was a member of Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. She had an unwavering faith in God and left behind no doubts that she has found eternal peace in the arms of the Lord. As her mind and body began to fail her, she could still recount when and where she met the Lord and could still remember the words to her favorite gospel hymns. She was the matriarch of her family, the glue that held everyone together. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed family gatherings.

She is survived by a daughter: Patsy Bryson; grandchildren: Shane (Amy) Bryson, Chad (Tena) Hopson, Heath (April) Daniel; great grandchildren: Ethan (Mattie) Hopson, Sawyer Daniel, Kennedy Daniel, Elizabeth Bryson, Owen Armstrong and Sawyer Owens; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband: Euell D. Hopson; son: Stevie Hopson and her parents.
