Shane Jonathan James Whelchel Jr, age 25 of Decherd, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems- Winchester. He was born in Red Bluff, CA on June 11, 1997 to Shane Whelchel Sr and April Neal. Shane was a member of Decherd United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing basketball, swimming, and hanging out with his friends and family. He also enjoyed watching murder mysteries and going to the beach. Shane’s greatest enjoyment came from his daughter and the time he spent with her. He was currently employed as an Equipment Operator at Frito-Lay in Fayetteville. Shane is preceded in death by two siblings, Huck Neal and Mykelti Neal and aunt, Christy Sharp. He is survived by his parents, April and Josh Neal of Decherd and Shane Whelchel Sr of Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Avery James Whelchel of Cowan; siblings, Scarlett Neal of Decherd, Marlayna (Kelton) Hickerson of Broadview, Dylan Whelchel and Spencer Neal both of Decherd; grandparents, Marlene Havener of Oregon, Janice Whelchel of Los Angeles, CA, John Whelchel of Oregon, Mindy and Jon Neal of Estill Springs; nephew, Korbin Hickerson; aunts and uncles, Mercella (Del) Wren of Oregon, Rachel (Micah Davis) Cuellar of Oregon, Jessica Whelchel of Los Angeles, CA, Cody Whelchel of Los Angeles, CA, Steven (Tanya) Sumpter of Oregon and Vikki (Louis) Gitlin of Clarksville; several cousins and other family and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 11 ,2022 5pm until 7pm at Moore Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 2pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Jon Neal officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
