SBI Investigating Officer Involved Shooting In Etowah County

ETOWAH COUNTY – On Wednesday, December 11, at the request of the Rainbow City Police
Department, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State
Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting
involving officers with the Rainbow City and Gadsden Police Departments.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:56 a.m. when officers responded to a call for service
regarding a domestic situation in the area of Williams Avenue in Rainbow City. Over the course
of the incident, the suspect, identified as Jamin David Elkins, 46, of Dora, Fla., fired at officers.
Officers returned fire, fatally wounding Elkins. No officers were injured over the course of the
incident.

Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be
turned over to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says a man was shot and killed Thursday during an incident involving officers from Rainbow City and Gadsden Police Departments.

The incident happened just before noon when Rainbow City officers answered a call for help at a domestic situation in the area of Williams Ave.

ALEA said the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Jamin David Elkins of Dora, Florida, fired at officers. Fire was returned by officers, and Elkins was hit, later dying from his injuries.

No officers were injured during the course of the incident, ALEA said.
