Sarah Mildred Smith Boyd, 95, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 at Magnolia Manor Assisted Living after an extended illness. Mildred (known as Mem to her children and grandchildren), was born March 26, 1921 in McNairy, Tennessee to William (Bill) Smith and Mary Susan Russell Smith. She attended McNairy School and was a graduate of Bethel Springs High School. Mildred attended Ramsey School of Floral Design in Memphis, Tennessee.
She was the owner and operator of Boyd’s Flowers and Gifts for 35 years. She was President of North Mississippi Florist Association and President of the Mississippi Unit of Teleflora. She was active in The Mississippi Florist Association and treasurer of the Flying Fezz.
Mildred was a member of West Main Church of Christ where she was active in church activities. She provided flowers for the offertory table for many years.
She is survived by her son, Bob Boyd (Robbie); one brother, James Smith (Beverly); one sister, Georgia Williams; grandchildren Kirk Boyd, William Boyd (Holly), Susan Boyd Kershaw (Jeff), Jennifer Palmer (Mark), and John Jenkins (Alix); great grandchildren, Melissa Boyd McAnally (Jason), Taylor Boyd Estes (Steven), Madeline Boyd, Carson Kershaw, Sarah Kate Kershaw, Gable Palmer (Rochelle), Lucas Palmer, Maggie Palmer; great-great grandchildren Emma Kinleigh Estes, Elaine Estes, and Ella McAnally; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Boyd; son, Kenneth Boyd, grandson, Mark Boyd; father, William(Bill) Smith; mother, Mary Susan Russell Smith, and six sisters, Cleatis Cooper, Glatis Sewell, Irene Frey, Nancy Seratt, Ruby Pearl Hickman, and Billie Jo Smith.
A service honoring Mildred’s life will be at 11 AM, Friday, August 26, 2016 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Minister Charles Tharp and Minister Doug Greenway officiating. A private family graveside service will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Duke Loden, Jimmy Keith, Curry Hardin, Larry Fruge, Dr. Ken Kellum, W. C. Hill, and Chuck Begnaud.
