Sandra Gail Lee, born July 26, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, surrounded by family both near and far. After graduating from Huntsville High School in 1964, Gail began college at the University of North Alabama in Florence. After a short time, however, she returned to Huntsville to be with the love of her life, W.C. Lee. Gail began working at Boeing before marrying W.C. on July 31, 1965. Together they built a beautiful life and raised two children, Brent and Brian. They were later blessed with two grandchildren, Watson and Maggie, who they adored.
In 1987, Gail and W.C. opened Lee’s Sporting Goods. For the next 23 years, they worked side by side, building the business and serving their community. In 2010, they sold the business to their son, Brian, allowing the family legacy they had built together to continue.
Family was everything to Gail. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and had a special gift for making people feel heard and cared for. Gail was someone family and friends could always turn to, knowing she would listen with patience, love, and understanding. She had particularly close relationships with her stepfather, Roger Humphrey, and her brother, Blaine Humphrey.
Gail was also an avid bridge player for most of her adult life. She enjoyed not only the game itself, but also the friendships and fellowship that came with it.
Gail is survived by her two sons, Brent William Lee (Ginger) of Huntsville, AL and Brian Matthew Lee (Karen) also of Huntsville, AL; two grandchildren, Watson Matthew Lee of Rockville, MD and Margaret Elizabeth “Maggie” Lee of Auburn, AL. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 57 years, W.C. Lee, and her precious mother, Dorothy Pauline “Billie” Humphrey.
Visitation will be from 12:00-1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with service to immediately follow.
