Sam ShanklesSamuel William Shankles, 19, of Fort Payne, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024. He was born November 23, 2004 to Scot William Shankles and Angela Mitchell Shankles. He was a talented guitarist and loved music. He was a member of Fischer Boy Scout Troop 4075, where he earned Eagle Scout. One of his greatest joys was time spent with his friends and their shenanigans. Sam grew up in First Baptist Church and later joined Delmar Missionary Baptist Church where he was an active member.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Redden officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. He will lie in state on Sunday at First Baptist Church from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. hour of service.

He is survived by his parents Scot and Angie Shankles, sister Annabelle Shankles, grandmother Carolyn Shankles, grandfather Gary Mitchell, uncles Steve Shankles (Teresa) and Rodney Mitchell (Kayla), aunt Susan Hollingsworth, and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother Anita Mitchell, grandfather Fred Shankles, and great-grandmothers Mildred Mitchell and Mildred Heard.

Wilson Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Payne is in charge of arrangements.
