Sadie Inger Duncan, age 91 of Austin, Texas, passed away on January 28, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 18, 1933, in New Market, Alabama, to the late Gordon and Lalma (Sanders) Swafford. Sadie was a member of the Kenny Ave Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. She retired after 27 years from Southwestern Bell as an operator. Sadie, a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, was a beacon of compassion and kindness in her community. A natural leader, Sadie was respected for her integrity, compassion, and her ability to bring people together. She believed in the power of collaboration and often put others before herself, guiding many to achieve their full potential. Sadie dedicated her life to serving others. Her infectious smile and warm heart made her a beloved figure in every corner of her life, whether it was through managing the chicken farm on Duncan Lane for eggs to be sold through Fandrich Farm in Belvidere, Franklin County High School Cafeteria, or waitressing at the Keese Restaurant. Beyond her professional and community work, Sadie cherished her family above all. Her boundless energy, insatiable curiosity, and love of adventure took her to every corner of the globe through international travels to Africa, Singapore, England and Madagascar. She was a master of making connections with people from all walks of life, and her kindness, empathy, and generosity earned her a special place in the hearts of those who she met. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Gordon Mitchell Duncan; grandson Matthew Olivo; the father of her children, J C Duncan; and sister, Naydell Swafford. She is survived by her loving children from Texas, Wytona Lynn Crawford, Inger Faye Olivo, and Leauna Ann Almonte; siblings from Winchester, Billie Swafford Tomlin, Clinton (Sara) Swafford, and Gary (Carolyn) Swafford of Huntsville, AL; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM with funeral services following at 1:00 PM.
