Ruth Catherine Simpson, 94 of Union Hill Community in Morgan County, died Wednesday October 11, 2017 at her residence.
Mrs. Simpson was born February 16, 1923 in Morgan County to Gus Thomas and Lucy Halbrooks Thomas. She was a 1943 graduate of Cotaco High School and later received an associate’s degree from a business college in Nashville. She married Ernest Simpson Sr. on October 31, 1944 and they shared 65 years together. She served her Church and community as long as she was able. She was a leader of the girl’s auxiliary, flower committee, food committee and taught the Ruth Sunday School class for 40 years. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening and playing musical instruments. Mrs. Simpson was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
She was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Ernest Simpson Jr., and Diann; her daughters and son-in-law: Gloria Brown and J.W., Carol Maxwell and Leta Brooks; her grandchildren: Joseph Brooks, Leslie Brown Malone and Max, Andrew Brown and Jennifer Maxwell Nay; her great grandchildren: Bradley Malone and Shae, Megan Malone, Madison Nay, Ethan Nay and Cash Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ernest Simpson Sr., her sons-in-law: Joe Brooks and Roger Maxwell.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 14, 2017 at New Canaan Baptist Church with Brothers: Eldridge Criscoe, Robert Cruise and Jeff McLemore, officiating. Burial will be in New Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Borden, Blake Borden, Bradley Malone, Cecil Cole, Mack McLemore, Max Malone, Ricky Ford and Robbie Downs.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 14, 2017 prior to the service at New Canaan Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Canaan Baptist Church.
