Ruby Mae Shirley BrooksRuby Mae Shirley Brooks, age 81, of Haleyville, Alabama passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020. She was born September 15, 1939 in Lamar County, Alabama. She was a Godly wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved deeply. She was a charter member of Unity Baptist Church (Bessemer, AL) which her daddy started and helped build. She was an active member of Beech Grove Baptist Church (Haleyville) for 51 years; where she taught Sunday school, VBS, delivered many meals to grieving families and served as a deacon’s wife. She helped to start VBS at Beech Grove. Many children came to know Jesus from her years of service.

This precious lady set forth a perfect example for her children and grandchildren; an example of love, joy, peace, unity, understanding, forgiveness and kindness. She was a Proverbs 31 woman.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Billy Brooks; children, Margaret (Charles) Capelton, Phillip Brooks and Danny Brooks; brother, Billy Joe Shirley (Wanda) of Hueytown, AL; grandchildren, Ryan and Lise Brooks, Amber Brooks, Andrea Brooks, Kristen Sanders (Dylan), and Jessica Amos; great grandchildren, Noah Capelton, Konner Capelton, Branlee Capelton, Lexie Casas, Kayden Casas, Kyson Sanders, Rylan Buckner, Gavin Marcus and Fraya Brooks; and a host of family and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Velmon and Rosie Shirley; brother, Robert Shirley; sister, Ruth Pennington and grandson, Branden Capelton.
