Roy Eugene Umfress, 57, passed on to his eternal Home on October 2, 2015. He was born on September 19, 1958 in Baton Rouge, LA to Bobby and Evelyn Umfress, Sr. He was a member and former deacon of Single Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Vina, participant of Emmaus Walk #337, and a veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a drill sergeant at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. He was a 1976 graduate of Vina High School.
Services will be Monday, October 5, at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay with Bro. Andy Barnett officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 6, 10 a.m. at Single Springs Cemetery, Vina, AL. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Sandra of Red Bay, the mother of his children, Edna Halili of Hamilton, his children Stephanie (Heath) McCarley of Phil Campbell, Bobby (Constance) Umfress II of Maylene, AL and Ryan (Shellie) Umfress of Hamilton, four beloved grandchildren, Jackson Umfress, Kalaya Umfress, Ezekiel Umfress, and Ezra Umfress, and a brother Kenneth Umfress of Red Bay as well as a multitude of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents Earl and Rosetta Umfress and Columbus and Effie Abbott.
Pallbearers will be Daniel McKinney, Jason Allison, Justin Allison, Chad Pharr, Gary Umfress, Jacob Morrison and Larry Bates.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 4, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL.
Death is only a pause for the Christian. We will see you one day our beloved husband, dad, brother, and friend.
