Roy Douglas Free Sr., 92, died Aug. 3, 2016. A gathering of friends will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon. The Celebration of his life will begin at noon in the chapel of the funeral home.Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Brother O.D. Bowling and Gary Hill are officiating.
Mr. Free was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Louise Whitlow; daughter, Lynda Sue Free Carr; parents, John Harvey Free and Minnie Dale Burch; sisters, Sara Mae Aldridge and Dorothy Dean Gentry; brother James Free.
He is survived by his children, Doug Free (Shelia), Pam Free Cowart, Mark Free and JoAnn Free Harris (Paul); seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Free served his country during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge of Normandy, France, and in Germany. He loved his church and was an active member of Beltline Church of Christ. He was a great outdoorsman, loving fishing, hunting and Alabama football.
He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Family will be serving as pallbearers.
