Ronald Eugene Travis left this earth on Wednesday June 11th, after a beautiful day at his lake home in Michigan. Ron was born on April 30, 1941, to John and Gertrude Travis. Ron grew up in Birmingham and Decatur, Alabama where he would climb the rafters of his church to catch pigeons, just one of his many interests.

Ron graduated magna cum laude in Mathematics at Athens State University and completed a successful career as a software engineer contractor with the Army.

Ron was an avid collector of Indian artifacts and military memorabilia. He was very well versed in History and volunteered multiple hours at the Huntsville Veterans Museum where he was very well known and loved. He also participated in the yearly Veteran’s Memorial Day parades. Ron exuded a very warm and playful spirit and was loved by many and was a wonderful example to us all.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude Travis, his sister, Loretta Griggs, his brother, John, and grandson, Jon David Brost. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Brost Travis; his daughter, Jodi Crubaugh (Joseph); son, Mike (Kimberly); and stepsons, Brian (Caroline), David (Frankie), and Michael (Monica). Grandchildren include grandsons, William, Tyler, Alex and Daryl; granddaughters, Ana, Amber, Laura, and Liza; along with eight great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday June 25th, with Mass and then a reception immediately following. Ron will be laid to rest in the Madison Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26th.

There are no words to express the void which we all felt when Ron left us. It is certain as time goes by that we will be filled with gratitude for the gifts of love and lightness of spirit that we have gained from knowing him.
