Ronald Cortez Chittam age 90 of Athens, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Limestone Health Facility. Mr. Chittam was born June 19, 1923 in Limestone County, AL to Jefferson Cortez Chittam and Mary Odell Bridges Chittam.
Graveside services will be Saturday, April 19, 2014 1:00 p.m., at Limestone Memorial Gardens with Guy McDaniel and Tommie Smith officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, from 10:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
Mr. Chittam was a member of O’Neal Church of Christ. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from NASA after 35 years of service.
Survived by a son, Anthony “Tony” Brian Chittam of Columbia, TN; three daughters, Sandra Looney and husband, Jim, Vicki Adams and husband, Jerry and Wanda Johnson and husband, Jim Paul all of Athens; five grandchildren, Greg Looney and wife, Lisa of Madison, AL, Chris Looney and wife, Amy of Athens, Brooke Chittam of Montgomery, AL and Brock Chittam of Athens and Jolie Separk and husband, Greg of Clarksville, TN; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas Looney, Briana Looney, Sophia Looney, Zane Looney and Jamey Separk; four brothers, Bobby Chittam and wife, Carolyn, Randolph Chittam and wife Wynette, Hubert Chittam and wife, Judy all of Athens and Wade Chittam and wife, Angie of Lancaster, S.C.; two sisters, Billie Clem Jenkins of Athens and Joyce Moffitt and husband, Jim of Huntsville, Al; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Greg Looney, Chris Looney, Zane Looney, Brock Chittam, Adam Chittam and Nicholas Looney.
