Honorable Roger McKay Tubbs, 69, local attorney, recounter and southern character, crossed from this life to the next on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Sanctuary Hospice after an extended illness. Roger was born in Oxford on July 9, 1948 to the late Rufus Clyde Tubbs, Sr. and Addys Earl Spears Tubbs. He had strong ties to Lafayette County attending the public schools there and graduating with a BA from the University of Mississippi and, later receiving his J.D. from the University of Mississippi Law School. Roger was a Certified Professional Engineer before serving 7 years as Captain in the U. S. Air Force earning 2 Air Medals and 1 Distinguished Flying Cross. Counselor Tubbs was a practicing attorney for 22 years before retiring. He was a multi- talented, adventurous man who served as an Flight Instructor in Columbus. He also served as a Maintenance Test Pilot from the Air Force. His love of flying was evident as he also was a Captain in the Mississippi Civil Air Patrol. Roger had a love of classic mustangs and hand gliding (often flying the tug plane) and tinkering with miscellaneous projects. The family wishes to express gratitude to Sanctuary Hospice House. A Private burial was held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 in the Tubbs Family Plot at Eastover Cemetery near Oxford. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, assisted the family.
Roger is survived by his wife, Deborah Pohl Tubbs; sons, Adam C. Tubbs and wife, Brittany and their son, Lincoln and Jeremy Tubbs and his wife, Victoria and their son, Jayce. 7 nieces and nephews and a lifelong friend, Robert (Bob) Norman of Oxford.
