Roberta Powell Allen – Obituary

Roberta Powell Allen, 84, passed away Saturday. Roberta was a dedicated homemaker, loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a founding member of the Monte Sano Baptist Church. In the fifty year history of the church, Roberta served in many different areas. Mrs. Allen was a Sunday school teacher, girls’ mission leader, and a choir member. Her participation in the choir brought her much joy. The original meeting place of the newly formed congregation was held in Reid and Roberta’s home, and ultimately grew into its current location on Monte Sano Boulevard.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Abbie Powell and her brother, Robert Powell Jr. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, William Reid Allen Jr. of Huntsville; daughters, Suzanne Allen Cook, and Rebecca Lynn Bradford and husband, Michael, of Huntsville, Cynthia Allen Yamagiwa and husband, Howard, of Fresno, CA, and Carole Jane Austinson and husband, Monte, of Brownsboro; grandchildren, Justin and Zachary Cook, Benjamin, Emily, and Olivia Bradford of Huntsville, Andrew Yamagiwa of Santa Barbara, CA, and Stephen Yamagiwa of Fresno, CA.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tidmore officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
