Robert Thomas (Tommy) Dendy, 73, passed away unexpectedly February 8 in Centre, Al. He was the son of the late Bob and Willie Dendy of LaFayette, GA. Dendy, a 1964 graduate of the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, retired from Rock-Tenn Co, as a Senior Vice President. An inspiration to many parents of children with ADHD, Dendy traveled with his wife to provide training. Dendy, a popular speaker at ADHD training events offered a message of hope to parents. A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, nephew and brother in law, Dendy leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and many friends.
Mr. Dendy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Chris Abney Dendy, a daughter Audrey Dendy Grabowski (Jay) Ringgold GA, and two sons, Steven Dendy (Sandra) Spring Hill Kansas, and Alex Zeigler (Amanda) Dadeville Al., and five grandchildren: Nathan and Ashley Grabowski, Hunter and Emily Dendy, and Tatum Moore. In addition he is survived by his brother, Jimmy Dendy (Kay) LaFayette, GA and an uncle, Bennie Dendy (Ann) Rossville, GA, several nieces and nephews.
Additional surviving relatives include sisters’-in law, Dr. Billie Abney, LaFayette, and Vicki Abney Ragsdale (Gaut) Kentucky, Bill Fricks, Rome GA, and several nieces. Other relatives include brother-in-law, Charles Brackett, sister-in-laws Carolyn Brackett Coulter and the late Wanda Carlock.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening at Perry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM CST and again Wednesday morning one hour before the funeral service. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 in the Centre United Methodist church sanctuary. Afterwards the church will serve lunch for the family.
Mr. Dendy will be transported to Lawrenceville after the service and will be buried in Lawrenceville, GA, alongside his first wife, Patricia Brackett Dendy, mother of Audrey and Steven. Brief graveside services will be conducted in Lawrenceville by Mark Carlock, Dendy’s nephew.
