Robert Sanders, 95, of Huntsville, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022. Mr. Sanders grew up in Huntsville and graduated from West Huntsville High School in 1945. After graduating high school, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He then attended Auburn University where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He was a teacher and coach for 2 years and then joined the FBI. He was assigned to the New York City Field Office where he met his wife, Theresa. They moved back to Huntsville in 1955 where he took a job with the U.S. Army Missile Command on Redstone Arsenal. He retired in 1986 and enjoyed gardening, reading and taking care of his grandchildren. His family meant everything to him.
Survivors include son, John Sanders (Diana); daughter, Regina McDaniel (Ken); grandchildren, Michael McDaniel (Leslie), Caley Fowler (Jonathan), Danny Goodman, Zach Sanders (Jenny) and Nick Sanders; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Sanders and daughter, Julie Sanders Goodman.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The service will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Father Michael Mac Mahon officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
