Robert Lee Parmer – Obituary

robert age 76 met his Savior Jesus Christ faith to face on December 27, 2014, in Athens, AL.

Robert was born at home May 6, 1938, Greenville, Butler Co, AL, in the Searcy Community, to John Carl and Loraine Harrison Parmer. He graduated from Greenville High School, Class of 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Walkenhorst, April 7, 1957, at the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville IL and she survives.

Robert served in the Alabama National Guard 1955-57. He enlisted in the US Navy January 1957 and was honorably discharged AMS1, January 1963, Miramar NAS CA. He completed civilian flight school and received his private pilot license in Escondido, CA in 1971.

Robert and Pat settled in Alabama in 1971 and he began a career in construction until retirement in 2000. Robert had been ordained as a deacon at the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville IL in 1964. He was an active member of Lindsay Lane Baptist Church in Athens, AL. He served on several mission trips to Moldova and Transnistria, distributing shoes and socks to the children in orphanages there. He was passionate in his love for the Lord and his family, and a patriot who loved his country dearly. In 2007 he and Pat retired from the farm at Liberty Hill, Phil Campbell and moved to Athens, AL.

Robert’s parents preceded him in death as well as a brother-in-law, Jesse Veazey in 2007.
Survivors include his wife Pat, one daughter, Pamela Jane (Brad) Korb, Huntsville, AL; two sons, Robert Mark (Donna) Parmer AR; John Daniel (Vickie) Parmer MI; six grandchildren, Sarah Michelle Korb; William Harrison Parmer, Cadet Benjamin Robert Parmer, John Mark Parmer; John Tyler Parmer, Blake Alexander Parmer. Three sisters Katherine Veazey, Jewel (Joe) Tilley, both of Greenville, AL; Jane (Chester) Hix, Montgomery, AL, and one brother Calvin (Linda) Parmer of Russellville, AL, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends around the United States and the world.

Pallbearers are Will Parmer, Tyler Parmer, Ben Parmer, Blake Parmer, John Parmer, Jeff Parmer and Sarah Korb. Honorary pallbearers are the men of Wayne White’s Connect Group.

Services for Robert are Monday, December 29, 2014 at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2014 from 12:00 until 1:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens with military honors with Dusty McLemore and Joe Holmes officiating. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home is assisting the family.
