Robert E. Elam Jr. Robert E. Elam, Jr., died on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Maplewood Healthcare and Rehab of Jackson, TN.
He was born on Monday, August 5, 1929, in Memphis, TN the son of the late Robert and Winnie Patterson Elam. Bob was raised and educated in Greenfield, TN and attended Union University, where he met and eventually married the love of his life Betty Dodd. Betty unfortunately succumbed to cancer seven days after she and Robert celebrated their 50th anniversary.
After his graduation from Union, Bob became store manager for Sherwin-Williams Paint Store. He later purchased McCall Hughes Clothing and opened Candyland in downtown Jackson. Toward the end of his working career, he became a representative for the existing industry division for the State of Tennessee Economic and Community Development retiring in 1992.
After retirement Bob spent most of his time at Woodland Hills Golf Club, where he was a charter member and former club president. He was a good husband, supportive father, a loving grandfather, and friend to many.
Those he leaves to remember him fondly are his sons, Robert III and wife Teresa and Steve and wife Carol and a daughter Lin; his grandchildren, Tyler, Shelby and Sydney and a sister, Dorothy Darsey.
The Elam family wishes to express its gratefulness to the staff at Maplewood for their excellent care and patience during some demanding times with him.
Bob was a lifelong Presbyterian and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield and Jackson, TN.
SERVICES: A graveside service for Mr. Elam will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Ridgecrest Cemetery with Rev. John White of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson officiating.
