D.2.1.19 Robert Murray.jpgRobert “Bob” Arthur Murray, 89, of Decatur, passed peacefully on Tuesday January 29th at Limestone Health Facility, Athens. He was born August 11, 1929 in Pennsylvania to Arthur Wilson Murray and Helen Worstell Murray.

Mr. Murray was a member of First United Methodist Church Hartselle and participated in their Senior Adult Choir. He served our country as a pilot United States Navy and achieved the rank of Lieutenant.

Most of his career was as a brilliant Engineer and Executive for Alcoa Aluminum Company. Mr. Murray was an avid fisherman and a master wood worker.

In his later years he enjoyed flying model airplanes with the Decatur Model Airplane Club and was quite a baker, making fudge, cookies and his famous lemon meringue pie for family and friends.

He is much loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth Sennett Murray; and son-in-law, Peter Jeurgen Asmann.

Survivors include his two daughters, Pam Murray Asmann, Decatur, and Marcia Murray Massengill (Paschall), Tullahoma, Tennessee; one sister, Betty Lou Murray, New Kensington; five grandchildren, Christy Wall Kuhlman Austin), Abiquiu, NM, Kaci Nicole Wall (Drew Campbell) Boulder, CO, Beverly Anne Massengill of Franklin, TN, Christopher Paschall Massengill of Franklin, TN, Thomas Asmann, Huntsville; two great-grandchildren, Coralie Amelia Kuhlman and Dominic Asmann. He has several very loved nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will take place at Peck Funeral Home, Hartselle, on Tuesday, February 5th with visitation at 1 p.m. and memorial service at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First United Methodist Church Hartselle, 210 Hickory Street SE, Hartselle, AL 35640 and Hospice of the Valley, 240 Johnston Street SE., PO Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35601.
