Mr. Robert Allen Barnes, 72, of the Grassy community in Arab, Alabama, passed away Sunday evening, July 19, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born in Germany on August 1, 1953, to Harold William Barnes and Donna Jean Hewitt Barnes Phillips. Robert was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country for more than 20 years. Following his military service, he worked in instrument calibration with TVA.
Robert loved music and was an extremely talented musician. He enjoyed playing his guitar and writing his own songs. He was also a big fan of NFL football and enjoyed the company of his two cats.
Robert is survived by his brother, Jim Barnes (Kelly Conner), and his sister, Debra Jean Collins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Phillips; father, Harold William Barnes; and stepfather, Raymond Phillips.
Family, friends, and guests will gather for visitation to honor, acknowledge, and reminisce from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Arab Memorial Cemetery. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
