Graveside services for Rita “Mimi” Smith, age 73, of Wetumpka, will be Friday, June 23, 2023 at 2:30 P.M. at Ashland City Cemetery with Pastor Mark Sims officiating. The visitation will take place on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland.

Mrs. Smith was born in Sylacauga and graduated Sylacauga High School after which she attended Central Alabama Community College and received her associate’s degree. She worked as a legal secretary for a judge in Clay County. She then married her husband, Duane Smith, in 1970. They moved to Selma where she worked as an administrative assistant to Circle S. Industries for 10 years. They then moved to Montgomery where she obtained her real estate license and worked for Lauder Realty, she also worked for the Montgomery County School board where she retired in 2005. She loved spending time with her family; she would follow them to ballgames wherever they were and never missed one. She also loved going camping and going to Wind Creek. Mrs. Smith was known by her family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Duane Smith of Wetumpka; her sons, Jason Smith (Trish) of Millbrook and Brandon Smith (Paige) of Wetumpka; her grandchildren, Bayley McMichael (Austin), Lindsey Kramer (Kyle), Olivia Phillips, Grant Phillips (fiancé Miranda), Dylan Smith, Landon Smith, Lexie Smith; great-grandchildren, Houston Lane McMichael; sisters Nina McCormick of Clanton; and numerous extended family.

Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her father, Lois Jackson Greene and her mother, Mary Elizabeth Parker Greene.

Active Pallbearers will be Dylan Smith, Landon Smith, Grant Phillips, Austin McMichael, and Kyle Kramer.
