Richard Randolph “Randy” Mears, Sr., of Huntsville, Alabama, died April 14, 2016 at Crestwood Hospital. Mr. Mears was born in Bloxom, Virginia to John and Mary Mears. He was a veteran of World War II, received two Purple Hearts and many other medals and awards. He was employed as a civil servant at Redstone Arsenal and was an active member of First Baptist Church. He loved sports, especially golf, and was an avid Alabama football fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Keith Mears of Parksley, Virginia, and Grayson Mears of Warwick, Virginia, sisters, Inez Mears Davis of Mears, Virginia, and Pauline Yost of Aliquippa, PA.
Survivors include wife, Ruth Middleton Mears, sons, Richard Randolph Mears, Jr. (Eva) and Randy Ray Mears, daughter, Rhonda Flowers (David), granddaughters, Chelsea Flowers, Kyra Flowers, and Rachel Mears and sisters, Virginia Dickinson and Nora Iacobucci.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow. There will be a private committal and burial.
