Richard Leroy Burrows was born Nov. 21, 1946, in Dearborn, Michigan to Robert L. Burrows and Helen Clayton Burrows. He passed away on Jan. 3, 2018. Richard spent his childhood in Michigan and later in Sheffield, Alabama. After graduating from Florence State University (now University of North Alabama), he married Kerry Moore. They were married for 52 years. He bravely served in the United States Air Force and spent a year in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He worked for the state of California for the departments of Social Services and Corrections for over 35 years.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Kerry, who passed only ten months before him. He leaves behind his son, Brian Burrows, and daughter-in-law, Trisston Burrows, of Hoover, Alabama, as well as his daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Clark, and son-in-law, Trevor Clark, of State College, Pennsylvania. His seven grandchildren, Lena, Hannah, Jonah, Isaiah, Esther, Lydia, and Tabitha, all of State College, will miss him greatly. He is also survived by his mother, Helen Burrows, of Sheffield, Alabama; his brother, Randall (Randy) Burrows, and sister-in-law, Kathy Burrows, also of Sheffield, Alabama; and sister-in-law, Judy Moore Mathis, of McCalla, Alabama; nieces, Katie Burrows, Rebecca Cantrell (Blaine), and Ruth Mathis; nephew, Charles Woodrow Mathis (Emily); and great-nieces, Kathleen and Kennedy Cantrell. Richard was an avid spectator of all sports most notably the San Francisco Giants and 49ers and the Alabama Crimson Tide. After retiring he became an outstanding cook. He will be remembered for his red hair, his generosity, and his special ability to care for people.
A memorial service will be held at Moore Cemetery, in McCalla, Alabama on a date to be determined later.
