A memorial Service for Mr. Richard Dale Hicks will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Wedowee at 10:00 A.M. The address is 1949 Co. Rd. 233, Wedowee, AL. The family requests casual attire.

Richard Dale Hicks, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 26, 2010. He was born on February 15, 1926 in East St. Louis, IL, and grew up in Tuscaloosa, AL. He served his country in World War II by fighting for the Army on the European front. He served in the 82 nd Airborne Div. 325 th Glider Infantry Co “E”, 13 th Airborne Div. 326 th Glider Infantry Co.” L-E” and finally, 17 th Airborne Div 194 th Glider Infantry Co “L”. He received his electrical engineering degree from the University of Alabama and his MBA from Texas Christian University. He benefitted from the GI Bill that allowed him to be the first one of his family to graduate from college. He worked for General Electric as a project manager at Kennedy Space Center and later became a teacher at Merritt Island High School for several years before retiring. Richard also was a co-owner of the Christian Book store in Merritt Island for more than forty years. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Merritt Island and spent seven years building his dream house on Lake Wedowee in Alabama.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Morrison Hicks; daughters, Valerie (Thomas) English of Mobile, AL, and Jennifer Pait; and five grandchildren, Rachel English of Birmingham, AL, Jeffrey English of Mobile, AL, Corrine Pait, Samuel Pait, and Jonathan Pait. He is also survived by siblings*, Bob (Maxine) Hicks, Martha (Charles) Potts, and Harvey and Yvonne Porter, all of Tuscaloosa, AL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Hicks Porter and a brother, Gilbert Hicks.

*2023 Update: Richard’s siblings are deceased with only Charles Potts still alive.
