Richard D. Nash

October 26, 1960—December 2, 2024

Richard D. Nash, known to his friends and family as Rick, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, December 2nd.

Rick was born and grew up in Starkville, Mississippi, was an Eagle Scout from Troop 45 and was a graduate of Starkville High School and Mississippi State University. He was a resident of Starkville for most of his adult life, and was perhaps the world’s biggest Bulldog fan. His career included work at the Starkville Daily News and the financial aid office at Mississippi State. He lived the last nine years of his life in Birmingham at the Fairhaven Retirement Community.

Rick was the son of Henry Warren Nash and Frances Venters Nash, who preceded him in death. Rick has one brother, Warren (Valerie) and three nephews: Wilson (Callie), Graham (Taylor) and Dixon, all of whom he loved dearly. Rick also had two great nieces, Ann Harper and Libby and one great nephew, Luke, all of whom he adored. They meant so much to him, and he loved to hear about their sporting events, the funny things they said, and what they were up to as they grew up. He never tired of the pictures and videos of Ann Harper, Luke and Libby.

Rick had a huge heart and was very generous with his friends and his family. He poured himself into caring for his mom and dad in their later years and was always thinking of others. When it came to his nephews, he could always be counted on to come up with the most imaginative, thoughtful gifts and they loved him for his big heart.

Rick’s room at Fairhaven was covered in Mississippi State memorabilia. He reveled in the successes of the Mississippi State baseball team and before his stroke, could often be found at Dudy Noble Field. He was over the moon when the Bulldogs won the national championship in men’s baseball in 2021. He was the living embodiment of the rallying cry, “Hail State!”

His family wishes to thank the caregivers at Fairhaven Retirement Community for their long-standing care and support, and are especially grateful for all of Rick’s friends who visited him there and stayed in touch with him during his last years.

Thanks be to God for the gift of Rick’s life….

Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Memorial Garden Park in Starkville, MS. beginning at noon.

Memorials may be directed to Mississippi State University or First Baptist Church of Starkville, MS.
