With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Richard Cleve McWhorter, age 71, on Monday, January 15, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama.
Born on June 30, 1953, in Boaz, Alabama, Richard was the son of Arthur and Yvonne McWhorter. After graduating from Boaz High School in 1971, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy before attending the University of Alabama. Richard’s adventurous spirit led him to travel the world, and his professional career as a TV producer at Channel 19 WHNT left an indelible mark.
However, above all, Richard was a loving father, grandfather, husband, son, mentor, and friend. His presence in the lives of those who knew him can never be replaced or replicated.
Richard is survived by his two sons, Caleb (Lauren) and Patrick; his cherished grandchildren, Parker, Hannah, Kennedy, and Lane; his stepmother, Ann McWhorter; and his brother, Ronald McWhorter. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur “Mac” McWhorter; his mother, Yvonne Walls McCormick; his sister, Deirdre McWhorter Johnson; and his loyal companion, Toddle.
Known to many as “King Richard,” Richard was an avid photographer, passionate traveler, and a lover of deep, meaningful conversation. His undeniable warmth and spirit touched everyone he met. Richard had a rare gift for making people feel seen, heard, and truly valued. Through his kindness and genuine interest in others, he formed lasting connections that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
Please join us in celebrating Richard’s life. Visitation will be held on January 24th, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Albertville Memorial Chapel, with a service immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School in Richard’s memory.
