SMSgt. Richard Arlen Wulfekuhl SMSgt. Richard Arlen Wulfekuhl, aged 85, of Athens, passed away on Monday, December 8th, 2025, at Athens Limestone Hospital. Born on August 11th, 1940, in Kenmare, North Dakota, Richard was the son of Bernard Wulfekuhl and Violet Pumerlo Wulfekuhl.

Richard leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wulfekuhl, and their children: daughter Michele Aronson and her husband Michael, residing in East Limestone; sons Michael Troy Wulfekuhl and his wife Toni, of Michigan; Russ Wulfekuhl and his wife Lisa, of East Limestone; and Chad Wulfekuhl, also of East Limestone. Grandchildren Misty Moore, Scott Smith, Jordan Wulfekuhl, and Alison Wulfekuhl, and great-grandchildren Amryn Kane, Weston Kane, Welsey Moore, and Kiera Smith. Richard is also survived by his sister, Diane Grenvik, who lives in Texas; and sister-in-law Barbara Griesbach.

He is preceded by his parents Bernard and Violet Wulfekuhl; brothers Keith and Marvin Wulfekuhl; sister Marlene Blake; and sister-in-law Michele Charlot Mackey.

A member of the Catholic Church, Richard lived a life of service and dedication. He proudly served his country, retiring from the US Air Force and then retired from the Schlage Lock Company. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard was a private pilot and enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, and spending time with his beloved cats, Cheech and Chong.

In honor of Richard’s memory and his commitment to the Veterans, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Veterans Post 21 at 22769 Black Road, Athens, AL 35613.

Richard’s life was a testament to his dedication to family, faith, and country. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
The funeral will be Friday, December 12, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Huntsville, AL, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Friday, from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. at the church.
