Recall LaGrange Festival Held May 4-6

LEIGHTON-LaGrange College was Alabama’s first chartered college, established in 1830, and was later turned into a Military Academy. The college’s enrollment read like a “Who’s Who” list. By 1862, due to the Civil War, most students had enlisted and the village was left virtually deserted.

Recall LaGrange a living history event commemorating the burning of LaGrange College-Military Academy during the Civil War in 1863. LaGrange College 1830-1863 was held this past weekend, May 4-6.
