Rebecca Duke Gibson Underwood, 79, a native of Tuscumbia, AL died on December 21, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Lucille Duke Gibson and James Franklin Gibson, who preceded her in death.

After graduating from Deshler High School, Rebecca earned her undergraduate degree from Mississippi State College for Women and her post graduate degree from the University of North Alabama. Rebecca taught school in the Colbert County School System for over twenty-five years, impacting the lives of numerous children.

In addition to her career in education, Rebecca owned and operated Rebecca’s and Promenade Formal Wear for more than twenty years. She took great pride in helping countless numbers of girls find the perfect dress for their special occasion. Rebecca, deeply rooted in her community, was well known in her field and respected by many as an entrepreneur.

She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Jack Baker Underwood; daughters, Amanda Underwood Lee (William James Lee, IV) of Muscle Shoals; Katherine Underwood Hanback (Christopher Todd Hanback) of Huntsville; and her beloved grandchildren, William James Lee, V and Mimi Baker Lee of Muscle Shoals.

Rebecca was a longtime member of the Tuscumbia Church of Christ, where her faith and fellowship were an important part of her life. She enjoyed her time as a member of the Muscle Shoals District Service League and the Maud Lindsay Study Club. She was known for her generosity, her devotion to family, and the friendships she nurtured throughout her life. She shared a special bond with her 12 chosen sisters in “The Bridge Club,” whose companionship brought her joy and laughter her entire life.

Rebecca will be remembered for the love she gave freely, the relationships she treasured, and the lasting impact she had on those fortunate enough to know her.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Alabama with a memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to the charity of your choice.
