Rebecca “Becky” Lou Fikes Owen passed away October 15, 2026, at Crestwood Hospital.

Becky was born on March 24, 1954, at Huntsville Hospital to Joe and Bert Fikes. She graduated from Grissom High School in 1972. She attended the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa as a music major transferring to the University of Alabama Huntsville where she earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing. During her time at UAH, she was employed at Huntsville Hospital and after graduating she continued her employment as a Registered Nurse.

Over her 40-year career, she diversified in various areas within the hospital. She started in Pediatrics then moved into Surgical Recovery, Cath Lab, Surgical Pre-Op, and Surgical Patient Care. She was prideful of the care she gave her patients and her relationships with coworkers have remained strong throughout the years. She balanced her career and family while raising two strong young men and being the caretaker for her parents.

Becky had many interests and hobbies including music. Playing the piano and French horn was very peaceful for her. She expressed herself through her paintings, photography, and gardening. She loved to travel, especially to beaches. Her happy place was the southern west coast of Florida where she loved to go on shell hunting excursions with her husband and friends several times a year. During fall weekends her heart belonged to football. She was a devotee to The Crimson Tide and UAB Blazers and attended many games. The times she spent with family and friends were priceless, but none could better than time with her four grandchildren.

As a member of the Church of the Highlands, she was a devoted Christian and shared her testimony of life with others. Encouraging and caring was her focus.

Becky is survived by her husband, Victor Mark Owen; brother David Fikes (Rebecca); sons, Joseph Lane Waller (Tifanny Betts) of Auburn, AL, and Daniel Lee Waller (Jessica Hannah) of Leeds AL; grandchildren, Ava Ruth Johnson of Birmingham AL, Hannah Jessica Waller of Leeds AL, Kenneth Reeves Waller and Beau Clement Waller of Auburn AL; stepchildren, Rachel Lauderdale, Naomi Owen of Athens AL; and the late Nate Owen Sr.; step grandchildren, Victoria Lauderdale, Owen Lauderdale, Jason Barksdale II, Cheyanne Barksdale and Ethan Finney of Athens, AL.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Edward and Bertha Howell Fikes, and late husband, Hurley Lane Waller.

A Celebration of Life will be announced by the family later.

If you would like to honor Becky, please send donations in her name to the Alabama Nurses Foundation.
