Rayburn Annis Gist – Obituary

Rayburn Annis Gist passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the age of 76. His visitation will be today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. The funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Carolyn Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Cherokee Memorial Park.

Rayburn was a native of Iuka, Mississippi and a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Vietnam. He was a retired truck driver and had driven for Mawson and Mawson for 25 years. Mr. Gist was a member of the Baptist church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Luttie Gist; brother, Buford Gist; and sister-in-law, Ruth Gist.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Gail Gist; his daughters, Kellye McKendree (Brian) and Kathye Grant; stepsons, Jimmy Odell Parrish (Terri) and Adam Willis; brother, Jimmy Gist; sister, Joyce Anglin; four grandchildren, Gavin and Kyle Grant and Evan and Ellie McKendree; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.
