HOLLYWOOD, AL– Public opinions and suggestions regarding the future of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Bellefonte Nuclear Plant near Hollywood, Ala., are still being accepted through Friday, March 18, 2016.
In February, TVA announced it was seeking public comment as it explored the possible sale of the 1,600-acre facility. In addition to its potential as a nuclear power plant, the site infrastructure would support different uses including industrial, commercial and residential development.
TVA’s 2015 Integrated Resource Plan noted little need for new large generating plants for the next 20 years, prompting the current exploration on whether there is a more beneficial use for this public land, such as for generating jobs and economic development in the area.
All comments received through March 18 may be publicly released and will be reviewed along with other pertinent information by management and the TVA Board to help decide whether to sell the property. If TVA’s Board of Directors declares the site surplus, TVA anticipates offering the property through a public auction process in accordance with Section 31 of the TVA Act.
TVA will accept written comments electronically and by conventional mail. Written comments should be sent to Sherry Quirk, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Tennessee Valley Authority, 400 West Summit Hill Drive, WT-6, Knoxville, Tennessee 37902-1401 or by email at sherryquirk@tva.gov. Comments also may be submitted on the project website at .
