STEVENSON, AL-The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department released a statement concerning the arrest of a Pisgah man who had originally been charged with Attempted Murder. The charges have been upgraded to Murder after the victim died from injuries received in the attack:
On Saturday 08/07/2021 at approximately 10:30 P.M., Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, along with Officers from the Stevenson Police Department and Hollywood Police Department, responded to a shooting call on County Road 287 in Stevenson, AL. The victim, James Jeremy OWENS, 40 years of age of Stevenson, AL., was found to have, one or more gunshot wounds, but was able to identify the person who shot him. OWENS was airlifted to a Chattanooga TN, hospital.
On 08/09/2021, The suspect, Billy Dwight CARTER age 32 of Pisgah, AL, turned himself in at the Jackson County Jail, and is charged with Attempted Murder.
The charges against CARTER have been upgraded to MURDER. This charge is based on the fact that the victim James Jeremy OWENS succumbed to his injuries today (8-12-2021) at approximately 1:22 PM EST. An arrest warrant for Murder was obtained for the arrest of CARTER, who surrendered himself at the Jackson County Jail at approximately 6:30 PM on 8-12-2021. Bond was set at $250,000.”
